Vermont Cartoonist Laureate Tillie Walden joins us for the Dillon Johnston Writers Reading Series to present a look at the intersection of indie comics with queer identity through her many graphic novels—from science fiction to memoir to historical retelling. Comics and Queerness in Vermont and Beyond on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in Z. Smith Reynolds Library 404. She explores the process and power of visual narrative and shares why comics are relevant to all corners of America.

Tillie is an award-winning graphic novelist and illustrator. The author of 14 novels, she published her first book in 2015 when she was 17. Tillie has won the LA Times Book Prize and several Eisner awards. Her most recent book, Clementine: Book Three (July 2025), is the final installment of her trilogy for The Walking Dead series. Her fifteenth novel, Charity and Sylvia, will be published by Drawn and Quarterly in Spring 2026.
