Our 2024 Doyle Fosso Scholarship Recipients
Join us in congratulating Grace Ayzanoa, Hollis Comer, and Meg Campbell on their receipt of the Doyle Fosso Scholarship! These three talented and accomplished students are the inaugural recipients of the new annual award, which is established in memory of Professor Emeritus Doyle Fosso, a distinguished professor of English who taught at Wake Forest University for thirty years before his retirement in 1995.
Grace Ayzanoa is a senior from Belleville, NJ. As a Politics & International Affairs and English double major with a minor in Latin American Studies, Grace has primarily focused on honing her writing and research abilities. She spent a semester abroad in Santiago, Chile, through Wake’s Chile Across South America (CASA) program. Grace is involved in various cultural and social organizations on campus, serving in multiple leadership roles. She is a Resident Advisor, Wellbeing Ambassador, President of the Rowing Club, campus tour guide, and an active participant in Greek life affairs and recruitment as a member of Alpha Delta Pi and Gamma Rho Chi. Grace is currently applying for a master’s program in Latin American Studies and plans to gain practical experience before pursuing law school.
Hollis Comer is a current senior here at Wake Forest University. She is an English major and a Psychology and Spanish double minor. “I have loved my career here in the English department, as I have grown so much as a writer, as well as expanded my knowledge of literary elements and important literary movements. Being an English major has helped me with so many aspects of my professional and personal life, pushing me to be a better writer, communicator, and a better critical thinker. Working at an Insurance brokerage this past summer, my English skills were vital to my success, as I felt that I had the tools to excel in my role when speaking to leadership figures, problem-solving, and adapting to a fast-paced environment. I can’t thank the English department enough, as my professors have taught me so much and I will be forever grateful to them.”
Meg Campbell is a Senior from Asheville, NC, majoring in English and minoring in Spanish, Chemistry, and Dance. On campus she is involved with the Wake Forest University Dance Company, Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, ZSR Ambassadors, and is an employee in ZSR Special Collections & Archives. She is currently applying to grad school and hopes to obtain a Master’s in Archival Management.
