Steven Dunn and DrewShamir will visit the university on October 2 and will give a collaborative reading and performance. The event, located at the Hanes Art Gallery at 6:30 pm, will be free and open to the public. A reception will follow.


Steven Dunn (a.k.a. Pothole, cuz he’s deep in these streets) is a Whiting Award winner who was shortlisted for Granta Magazine’s Best of Young American Novelists. He’s the author of three novels: Potted Meat (Tarpaulin Sky, 2018), water & power (Tarpaulin Sky, 2018), and Tannery Bay (FC2/University of Alabama Press, 2024), which is co-authored with Katie Jean Shinkle. He teaches in the M.F.A programs at Regis, Stetson, and Naropa universities.

DrewShamir is a Hip Hop artist based in Greensboro, NC, originally from Jacksonville, NC. He is a writer, rapper, producer/beatmaker, and lecturer, known for his thoughtful approach to music and his dedication to the culture. Working primarily within the Boom Bap and Traditional styles, DrewShamir also blends Adult Contemporary elements into his sound, offering a grounded and authentic perspective on life and Hip Hop.
