The English Minor
Overview
A minor in English Literature enriches other majors, such as History, Philosophy, Art, Theatre, Communications, Political Science, and Economics, to name a few. The English minor refines discussion, critical reading, and writing skills valued in many professions, including business, law, and medicine. The English minor also complements students’ majors in business and the sciences by adding a humanistic dimension to their undergraduate education.
Requirements
To complete a minor in English Literature, students must complete 18 credit hours in courses ENG 150 and above, with at least 15 of these hours at the 300-level. Specific guidelines include:
- No more than two advanced (300-level) Creative Writing or Writing courses may count toward the minor.
- Students will be assigned an adviser in the English department to plan their program of study.
- Only one course (three hours) taken elsewhere may be counted toward the minor, applicable to approved non-Wake Forest programs, not to those offered or sponsored by Wake Forest.
Note: Students who declared the minor before Fall 2022 must complete 21 credit hours to fulfill the minor requirements.
Additional Information
A minimum grade-point average of 2.0 in courses that comprise the major or minor is required for graduation with any major or minor offered by the department.
